I dug my sole remaining crate of vinyl LPs out of the back of the closet for the first time in forever. Spent the early afternoon listening to things I hadn’t heard in decades.

  • Bach played on organ by Anton Heiller.
  • Tunes from Honor Band concerts I was a part of from 80-84.
  • John Williams soundtracks I never got on CD: 1941, Superman, Return of the Jedi.

It’s been a very nice relaxing day.

It is hard to continue to be nice to someone who is passive-agressively hateful to you. Yet I know that love is always the right answer. Not fighting fire with fire. Not hurting the person back, no matter how good the thought of revenge feels. I will stand up for myself when necessary, but I will not let this person’s behavior change me from the person I want to be (filled with love) into the kind of person they are (nasty).

The children of the 90’s are all grown up and drinking in bars now, and I’ve been noticing an increase in the number of Spice Girls requests. So if what you want, what you really really want is Wannabe,” I’m ready for you.

My iPhone 4S came in today at 9:37 AM. I’m loving playing with it and especially talking to it! In fact I made this update orally by dictating it to the phone. I’m having a Nerd-gasm.

We all love passing on the interesting things found on the net, and social networking has provided an audience. We are all bloggers now, whether you realized it or not. But I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and now Google Plus, and it’s getting hard to manage it all. (And what happens if/when those all go the way of GeoCities, Friendster, and MySpace?)

My dad is convalescing at home, with my oldest sister Lynette staying there to look after him. It only hurts when he coughs, she said. He even got out of bed and made coffee by himself this morning. Hope I’m as tough at 80. (Who am I kidding, I’m not as tough now!)

My dad had gallbladder surgery yesterday (at Ochsner Hospital). It was too infected to do it with the laparoscopic method, so he had the full old-school cut-em-open kind. Saw him today. Ooh, it’s painful, he says!

The last four years of wars have cost 500 billion dollars. That’s $500,000,000,000. Dream of what we could have done domestically with that money.

New York: saw the Dakota, and Strawberry Fields in Central Park. Then down to Chinatown for lunch. Back up to 68th street for an art installation at Central Park Armory, then the observation deck at Rockefeller Center. Now resting at hotel. Tonight: down to the Village to see the Stonewall Inn and go to the Comedy Cellar for some stand-up.

New York: got to Manhattan via a very aggressive shuttle driver. Entertaining. Lane stripes seem to be just a mild suggestion here. Then walked to Times Square - OMG - I was in total sensory overload. It’s like nothing else anywhere! We walked through Grand Central station and past the Chrysler building. Supper at Five Napkin Burger”. Awesome. I’m loving the energy here!

Hooray for old-school film effects. CGI is so overused that I’ve actually been watching movies and thought, Ouch, that was a horrible CGI shot.” And then I watched the making-of and found out it was real. Damn you CGI for making me doubt everything.

After weeks of dust clouds and houses shaking so badly that our neighbor has cracked drywall, and after days of several of us speaking with various city officials, the destruction of the Colton School that we live next door to suddenly paused at 1:47 pm and the workers went home.

RIP to Mr. Alvin’s boxer Lil’ Dude, one of the sweetest dogs ever. He was 14 years old, which I understand is very old for a boxer.
